From the bottle:

A proud figure in Markham’s story, our cannoneer was created by our founder Bruce Markham, who legend has it would signal the start of every vintage by firing a miniature cannon.

Our Vineyards: We are proud custodians of 311 acres of pristine, certified sustainable vineyards in the Napa Valley.

Our Winemaking: Since joining the Markham family in 1993, our winemaker Kimberlee Nicholls has consistently styled and crafted true to varietal wines.

Our Merlot: Complex but with a charm only Merlot can offer. Opulent notes of cherry and plum jam are layered with aromas of cola, vanilla toast and briars.

Our Community: Napa Valley is our home and we proudly support our community in caring for both people and place.

The 2018 Markham Napa Valley Merlot opens with pleasing aromas of plum plus red and black cherry with touches of spice, chocolate and vanilla.

The wine tastes quite good features that signature smooth and round Merlot mouthfeel. Full of dark fruit and lots of licorice and spice everything works together nicely in this balanced wine.

It ends quite long, dry and grippy. The SRP is up there but if you can find this under $20 it hits the bulls-eye.
