Paddington Bear features in Barbour Campaign

“One of a kind-ness” has Barbour’s Re-Loved initiative at its heart, which enables customers who no longer have a use for their Barbour wax jacket to hand it back in return for a voucher.

The 90-second spot takes inspiration from the original Peggy Fortnum illustrations found in the Paddington books by Michael Bond, with every frame of the animation hand drawn and painted.

It opens with a festive scene on the streets of London, where Paddington is carrying his presents.

A group of carol singers knock at the door of Paddington’s grumpy neighbour, Mr Curry, who fails to answer the door in time. The carol singers move on just as Mr Curry opens the door.

After Paddington witnesses Mr Curry’s disappointment, he decides to buy his neighbour a present to show that he’s thinking of him.

He goes to Portobello Market with Mrs Brown and her daughter, Judy, and even though Paddington spots some of his favourite jars of marmalade, Mrs Brown suggests they should choose something a little less predictable.

Paddington finally decides to get one of Barbour’s Re-Loved jackets because they’re one of a kind and “there’s no-one quite like Mr Curry”.

The film was created by director trio Againstallodds and produced by Passion Pictures.

“We are delighted to feature Paddington in our Christmas film,” Paul Wilkinson, group marketing director and managing director, USA, Barbour, said.

“Extending the life of our garments has been at the heart of our brand for over 100 years and through Barbour Re-Loved, a key focus of our Wax for Life initiative, we have been able to demonstrate in a humorous and sentimental way, the importance of upcycling and how much a thoughtful and unique present can mean particularly at Christmas time.”

Rachel Clarke, senior vice-president UK, licensing and retail at The Copyrights Group, said: “Copyrights are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Barbour for a second Christmas campaign with Paddington full of kindness, humour and fun, just like the bear himself.”

As part of this year’s campaign Barbour will release a limited-edition Barbour x Paddington Re-Loved jacket, available from the 1st of December!
