Experience another side of Argentina with the 92-point Durigutti Bonarda, a great wine for pizza night!

INSIDER DEAL! Durigutti Bonarda - Broaden Your Horizons

While our Insider Deals are known for offering incredible discounts on fantastic wines, one of other goals is to give you very low risk ways to try some varieties and regions you may not be familiar with. Today we have exactly that.

Twenty years ago Bonarda was the most planted grape in Argentina. It has since slipped into the #2 position after the incredible rise of the French grape, Malbec. Bonarda, as it turns out, was also a transplant from France coming from the Savoie region bordering Switzerland.

Argentina remains the biggest producer of Bonarda in the world. It is little known elsewhere these days although there are a few plantings in California (mostly in Napa Valley) where it is called Charbono.

Why it has a different name, we’re not sure, and to make matters even more confusing there are actually three different grapes in Northern Italy that all go by the Bonarda name, but they are all distinct from each other and from Bonarda in Argentina. (Although, if you were drinking Bonarda blind you might guess it to be an Italian grape like Barbera so that could help explain the naming confusion.)

We’re also beginning to see many more of the Argentinean examples exported to the U.S. and that’s a very good thing because as Argentina’s second most planted variety making up 10% of all the grapes grown, there are lots of old vines and plenty of examples of delicious wines.

If you’ve followed Reverse Wine Snob for any length of time, then you’ve probably seen our Ten Tenets of Reverse Wine Snobbery. Tenet #3 is “Experiment With New Wines”. Well, today we’ve got a really easy (and delicious) way to do that with a 37% discount on a wine that goes great with pizza night! It also gets 92-points from James Suckling.

For the next day, you can get 6 bottles of the 2019 Durigutti Bonarda for $71.99, or just $12 a bottle!

Shipping is only $6.99 bringing your total savings to 37%. Buy multiples (which we highly advise you do) and you save even more since you’ll never pay more than $6.99 shipping, no matter how many 6-packs you buy. Read on for our full review.

This 6-pack deal is available to ship to the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WV, WI and WY. (These states are dependent on the individual licenses of the offering winery and are not representative of all our deals. Every deal can have different, sometimes more, sometimes less, states available.)

This limited time, winery direct offer ends Friday 12/2/2022 at noon (PT) unless it sells out sooner.

The 2019 Durigutti Bonarda comes from Mendoza vineyards, specifically Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo (65%) and Rivadavia (35%). The wine is fermented using native yeast and aged in stave-studded cement tanks (first use American oak) for 10 months. It is unfined and unfiltered (vegan friendly) and has just 2.5 g/L of residual sugar.

2019 Durigutti Bonarda

From the winery:

Brothers Héctor and Pablo Durigutti are two of Argentina’s most sought after consulting enologists.

Hector first became known for his work alongside Alberto Antonini as one of the co-founders of Altos Las Hormigas, the forward thinking project that placed Argentine Malbec on the international map in the late nineties.

Pablo comes with his own star studded resume which includes a stint at Catena and connections with more old-vine landowners than anyone else in the region.

Hector and Pablo Durigutti have long been passionate about the potential of Bonarda in Argentina and consistently craft some of the best examples produced in Mendoza.

This wine stands out amongst its peers due to the use of low yielding, late-picked fruit.

We’ve found this a surprisingly perfect pairing with Italian-American cuisine – Think lasagne, spaghetti and meatballs, manicotti…

Perfumed aromas of violets, blackberries, blackcurrants and wild herbs. It’s medium- o full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Concentrated and chewy with a savory, saline finish. Drink or hold. – James Suckling, 92 Points

2019 Durigutti Bonarda Back Label

The 2019 Durigutti Bonarda opens with a pleasing, inviting aroma of dark fruit, lots of herbal and floral notes and a touch of spice.

Taking a sip reveals a juicy, tasty wine with some nice dusty/chalkiness to it. With good structure and a smooth and chewy texture that lasts all the way through the finish this is a crowd pleaser and a super easy way to try a new grape.

It ends quite long, dry and savory with a nice burst of spiciness. And just like the winery says, it goes great with Italian dishes. We found it to be just about perfect with a pizza. Stock up!

Here’s what people are saying about our Insider Deals:

I opened up our first bottle last weekend and was blown away.

Wow!! Just got my shipment. It is absolutely tremendous.

Hi Jon, Best thing I ever did is buy wine thru you…not been disappointed with any of them! Thank you SO MUCH!

Would you happen to be offering this one again anytime soon? I regret not buying more. This was exceptional!

I am seriously considering having the Insider Deals as my primary go-to. Why did I not do this sooner? Thank you

The only thing I have ever been disappointed in with an Insider Deal is that I didn’t purchase more.

I love this wine I bought from you!!!! Thanks for doing what do do!!!

This an absolutely amazing wine, Jon…You’ve outdone yourself!

Thanks Jon. We already drank all 6 of the first order so we were ecstatic to see you offering it again. My wife and I both love it.

You are a man after my own heart. I have always looked for the best and least expensive wine and you just made it easier. Cheers!

Hi Jon, well, I did something people have warned about – bought 6 bottles and should have bought 12!

Have had nothing but great bottles since I started ordering your recommendations. Thanks so much!

We’ve gotten in on three of the deals and have been VERY happy with the value. I originally was going to do a wine club thing but the insider deal appeals to me much more.

The shipping on the Insider Deals is another great part of the deal. We recently paid $27 to a winery in California to ship 6 bottles (same packaging as the insider deals)….yikes!

Just got my 6 bottles and having my first glass. WHY, WHY didn’t I buy a case??!!

I really missed the boat by only getting four bottles of this offer last month. Should have bought least at a case.

My wife and I have really enjoyed getting to know new wines (and better than we used to buy!) Thanks for what you do and providing this service!

Jon – you have to stop offering all of these amazing deals. My self discipline is fading fast!!

I recently took advantage of your offer. So glad I did, and now sorry I did not buy more (like all those quotes on your website!)

The wine is outstanding. I am so glad I bought a case.

I only drink Reverse Wine Snob wine, it actually doesn’t make sense to buy from a store. You don’t get anything interesting, unique, and full of value otherwise.

Jon, I should have bought more! Delicious!!

I am a Certified Specialist of Wine. I love your deals. You pick great wines!! Kudos to you for getting us great deals!

Wish I would have ordered more!! It was great. Looking back, I wish I didn’t open it at our annual pool party. It’s gone. **Sob**

thanks for the deal…this wine is spectacular for $12.50/bottle. I am used to buying big, bold, young cabs or old vine zins and paying considerably more multiples of this price.

Hi Jon, just had to let you know that I love this wine!!!! Thanks for doing what you do.

I have purchased many times over the last several months and loved the wines!

Seriously amazing deal!!! I love a bold red, and Reverse Wine Snob delivered!!! Perfect for a rainy night!!

AMAZING!! Damn, I should have bought a CASE!!

WOW. Just… wow. Absolutely delicious. If I knew it was going to be this good, I would have bought a case… or two. This was dead-center in the sweet spot of what I like. Thank you!!

I have loved all my RWS deals, can’t wait to get this one.

I know that you don’t need to have ‘customers’ email you every time they like a wine that you have suggested/rated, and I have enjoyed many of your recommendations. But this Tannat was spectacular! Wow! That was amazing!

I finally opened a bottle of this and it did not disappoint. Delicious!!!

Thanks for a great service! We’ve been loving your emails and wine deals!

This insider deal is a great wine!!! So glad I got it!!

My Insider Deal arrived just in time for my celebration tonight and it’s absolutely delicious! Cheers!

Wish I had doubled my order!

I’ve gotten quite a few of these and loved them all — keep them coming!

Wow – this wine is amazing!!! Glad I have two more bottles of it!!

Bought a case wish I had purchased 2-3 cases. Fantastic buy for the price.

This Insider Deal was the best ever. This wine is amazing!!! Strongly recommend.
