How to Start a blog in Sweden

What is a blog anyway?

In short, a blog is a type of website that focuses mainly on written content, also known as blog posts. In popular culture we most often hear about news blogs or celebrity blog sites, but as you’ll see in this guide, you can start a successful blog on just about any topic imaginable. In a few minutes, you’ll be a Sweden blogger.

Bloggers often write from a personal perspective that allows them to connect directly with their readers. In addition, most blogs also have a “comments” section where readers can correspond with the blogger. Interacting with your readers in the comments section helps to further the connection between the blogger and the reader.

This direct connection to the reader is one of the main benefits of starting a blog. This connection allows you to interact and share ideas with other like-minded people. It also allows you to build trust with your readers. Having the trust and loyalty of your readers also opens up the door to making money from your blog, which is something I discuss later in this guide.

Why you should start a blog in Sweden and join the blogging community.

So below, I’m going to outline exactly what you need to do to get started and set up your own personal blog in Sweden. Before we dive in though, I really want to talk about WHY you should build a blog.

Note: If you already have a solid idea of the whys, then skip this and go right ahead with the guide and if you would like to subscribe to my mailing list and get started to be a successful blogger in Sweden today then sign up.

  1. Blogging has quickly become one of the most popular ways of communicating and spreading information and news. There are literally millions of blogs online (don’t worry, you can make yours stand out and get noticed!).
  2. It’s a great way to express yourself and also a fantastic way to share information with others.
  3. You become a better person and a better writer.
  4. The best reason? You can make money doing it!

I bet you already knew all of that, but it’s nice to be reminded.

Should you start a blog in Sweden?

One of the misconceptions about starting a blog especially in Sweden is that you need to be a great writer to be successful. Nothing could be further from the truth. People read blog sites to get a personal perspective on things, so most bloggers write in a very informal and conversational style.

In addition, you don’t need to be an expert on your topic in order to have a successful blog. For example, readers of a cooking blog don’t want to read a textbook from a food scientist, they want to hear the experiences of someone who has actually cooked some real meals, mistakes and all.

To be successful as a blogger in Sweden there is really just one requirement: A passion for your topic.

Can I start a blog for free?

Yes, and I see many Swedish bloggers with free blogs but I don’t recommend it if you want to make money. Why? Five reasons:

  • Limited money-making capability. Some free services limit the money you can make unless you “upgrade” to a higher level. You’ll have to pay for that upgrade of course, which defeats the purpose of having a free blog in the first place.
  • Lack of support. Companies don’t offer free blogs out of the goodness of their hearts. They want to make money. If you’re not making them money, they won’t go out of their way to keep you happy. Sometimes this means you’ll have little to no support. Other times you’ll be badgered with offers for their paid-for products.
  • Only basic features. Basic features might not be a problem at first, but as you grow, you’ll feel the pinch. Expandability and flexibility are key. Both are limited with free blogging services.
  • Switching isn’t easy. If you want to switch to a better service later (common for those who start a free blog), it’s a hassle and can be costly. Doing it yourself takes a lot of time and know-how. Hiring someone to do it correctly costs hundreds of dollars.
  • You can’t use others for inspiration. This happens to new bloggers all the time. They start a blog for free. Soon they notice cool features on other blogs that they want too. The problem is, those features aren’t options on their free service.

If those common problems don’t convince you, or a free blog is truly your only choice, I would recommend you start with wordpress.com, Medium or Blogger.

Pick the Right Blog Topic

Common reader questions:

“What are the most popular blog topics?”

“How do I make money as a Swedish blogger”

“How do I come up with a blog idea?”

 “What should I blog about?”

Does blogging even pay in Sweden?”

“How to choose blog topics?”

“What do I need to start a blog in Sweden”

“What if I don’t know what to blog about?”

“How do you start a blog in Sweden?”

STEP 1 – Choose your blog topic

The very first thing you need to do is choose a topic for your blog.

Most successful blogs focus on one thing. May it be food, travel, fitness, fashion or simply about your business.

We recommend choosing a topic that you feel passionate about or interested in. It’s even better when you are an expert at something, this helps you to grow your blog through writing good, quality content to help others.

Tips for choosing a blog topic:

  • Are you an expert in something?
  • Are you passionate about something?
  • Are you learning something new and want to write about your process?

Here’s an example: If you are highly interested in fitness and you like to train, it’s wise to share your wisdom in a blog that is related to fitness or cover topics on training and nutrition. Through the blog, you’ll be able to get new clients.

You don’t need to choose your blog topic right away, but it’s good if you already have something in mind.

If you still need help in choosing the right topic, see what actions I recommend below.

I know that starting a blog can seem overwhelming and intimidating. This free step by step guide on how to start a blog in Sweden and make money blogging is all about blogging for beginners, and will teach you how to be a blogger in Sweden with just the most basic computer skills. So whether you’re 7 or 70, you can start a blog on your own in less than 20 minutes.

I am not ashamed to admit that when I was first learning how to build/start a blog I made a ton of mistakes.

How to Choose a Winning Blog Topic

A relevant part on how to start a blog in Sweden AND make money blogging.

Jot down a list of topics that interest you.

These could be your hobbies, topics you suspect are highly profitable, or something random you read in a magazine while waiting to see the dentist or even discussions at school that seem fascinating.

To have a viable blog topic, you need to be able to answer “yes” to these five questions:

  1. Do any existing blogs on this topic have a Facebook page with more than 10k fans?
  2. Do any blogs on this topic have more than 50k followers on Twitter?
  3. Does Amazon have any books with more than 30 reviews on this topic?
  4. When you search for words and phrases related to this topic, are there any Google ads?
  5. Do any words or phrases related to this topic have more than 100k searches in Google’s Keyword Planner tool?

These questions will let you know whether or not there’s an existing audience for your topic.

Here’s why this is important:

Too many bloggers try to be cute. They hunt for an audience no one else is serving. They think, “if there’s no competition for this topic, creating a successful blog will be easy!”

Wrong.

If there are no competitors, who will link to you? Where will your audience come from? How the heck will anyone find you?

It’s counter intuitive, but the more competition there is in a blogging space, the easier it is for a new blogger to find success in that space.

So, don’t try to be unique. Don’t try to be too clever.

Pick a blog topic that has an existing audience and popular blogs already vying for the audience’s attention.

Step 2 – Choose your preferred blogging platform

As a Swedish blogger, you need to choose your blogger platform. Choosing where you want to build blog is pretty much the first thing you have to do. I’m going to take a leap and assume you’ve heard of WordPress, and this is the platform I advocate for bloggers in Sweden (wordpress.org / wordpress.com). It’s massive.

It’s by far one of the biggest blogging platforms in the world, with countless plugins and add-ons and almost infinite ways to design and layout your blog.

There are more than 82 million active users of WordPress = a lot, basically.

There are other alternatives, however, and they are listed below:

  • Blogger – Definitely the next best thing to WordPress.
  • Tumblr – Half social network, half blog. Interesting, and very simple to use.

Even though WordPress is bigger (and probably better) than those two, here are my reasons why you should still go with WordPress:

  1. Super easy set-up and is free to use
  2. Tons of free themes and layouts (I’m not kidding, there are gazillions).
  3. There’s a massive support forum in case you get stuck (you won’t, but it’s nice to have it there if you need it).
  4. Your blog will be insanely fast and it’ll also have great Functionality and form – perfect!
  5. People can interact with you easily. Your content can be shared, commented on, and so on.

Self-hosting or a free alternative?

Whoa, slow down there! This is the biggest decision you’ll have to make before we go any further. Many Swedish don’t have access to a self-hosting or paid hosting so they turn around to go in for free blogs which I don’t recommend if you want to make huge profit online blogging in Sweden. You need to decide whether to pay for your blog or grab a free one.

WordPress, Tumblr, and Blogger all offer free blogs for anyone. Awesome, right? It’s perfect for those of you who aren’t super serious about blogging. But it does have downsides:

1) You won’t be able to get your OWN domain name

On a free blog, your blog’s web address (your URL) will be butt-ugly. Like, really ugly. In short, create a free blog with any other the above free blog services and it’ll look like this:

  • yourblog.wordpress.com
  • yourblog.blogspot.com
  • yourblog.tumblr.com

I know, ugly right?

2) Limits and more limits

There are some limits to free blogs. You can’t fully monetize it, and you don’t have the possibility to upload all those videos and images you want to show everyone – it’s all limited. Worse still, you won’t even have access to the free themes offered by WordPress.

3) You DON’T OWN your blog

It might sound silly at first, but you don’t actually own your blog. It’s hosted on someone else’s web property and they can delete it if they want to. They have done so in the past, and keep doing it in the future. Which means all your hard work on your blog, all those countless hours of writing blog posts might have vanished within seconds. Sad…

On the other hand, with a self-hosted blog on your own domain name – you are the REAL owner of your blog. You’ll be able to name your blog whatever you want, for example, “YourName.com” or “YourAwesomeBlog.com. You can end it with .com, .co.uk, .net, .org, .ng(for Sweden Bloggers) or virtually any other web suffix. Add to that unlimited bandwidth for videos, images, and content plus the free themes and you have a winning combo.

So how much is hosting and a domain name? Not as much as you’re thinking, fortunately. It usually works out to about $5 to $10(2,000 to 3,900 Naira) per month, depending on your hosting provider which is less than a couple of coffees or choronko phone.

Now, Step 3 to start a blog in Swedish (see, we’re moving fast now!)

Step 3: Choose a plan

Choose a good plan that suits your need and price level. I prefer you go for yearly plans. Its saves times and expenses. You see in Sweden we are faced with low currencies and all plans are set to USD or Euros. So If your are going for a yearly plans a Swedish blogger who is just starting without much income, the price might scare you because it usually operate above the 60, 000 Naira. If you are capable then fine but if not, then go for the monthly plan which will suit your pocket.

I personally recommend Interserver.net. They are very cheap and reliable. I use it for all my websites. Their basic plan gives you the ability to host unlimited domains and you have unlimited emails and FTP(File Transfer Protocol).Just at a price of $5( 2,000) per month. They are very reliable.

Step 4: Choose a domain name

There are a few websites owned by pertinent Swedish bloggers and for your website to be visible you must purchase a domain. Usually costing from 4.99 to 17 USD per year(that is 2,000 Naira and above). Your domain name is your web address (e.g. Moneyprocesses.com, lead-biz.com). If you know what domain name you want to use, enter it. If you’re not sure, You can always choose later With Interserver.net.

What if the domain name I want is taken?

This is very common. Just choose one later by clicking the link. It’s not a bad idea to wait anyway. It’s amazing how much clarity comes after starting!

Lastly, you will need to add your account information and finalize the package info to complete the process. We recommend going with the 36-month plan because that’s the best value since you want have to stress thinking of how you will pay again till the 36 months finish but like I said fellow Swedish Pay according to your wallet Capacity. If you would like any help subscribe and contact Us

Once completed, you will receive an email with details on how to login to your web hosting control panel (cPanel). This is where you manage everything from support, emails, among other things. But most importantly, this is where you install WordPress. So you just need to click to Control Panel(CPanel) section.

Note that  every blogger in Swedish knows these processes and in order for you to be a successful blogger in Sweden you need to adjust or configure your site. Making money blogging in Sweden is really a competition for many blogger from Sweden are taking over the platform because they have seen it as a passive source of income. Step 7: Pick a theme

You’re almost done! I recommend two themes: Astra or GeneratePress. Don’t worry, they are both highly customizable. If you want to start a successful blog in Sweden then you must have a highly responsive theme both mobile responsive and web or desktop responsive

Customizing the look and feel of your blog is by far one of the most exciting and rewarding part in the journey of creating your WordPress blog.

You can change your theme by going to your WordPress dashboard and clicking on Appearance » Themes.

Go ahead and click on the Add New button.

On the next screen, you will able to search from 7,400+ free WordPress themes that are available in the official WordPress.org themes directory. You can sort by popular, latest, featured, as well as other feature filters (i.e industry, layout, etc).

Then, switch the tab to “Popular”:

What you’re going to see are the most popular free WordPress themes in the market. And the best part is that you can install any of them with just one click.

Go ahead and spend a while browsing through this list to find something that really suits your business and the main purpose behind your new blog.

Once you do see a theme you like, you can get it installed onto your blog by clicking on “install” next to the theme’s name, followed by “activate”.

Note: What you’re doing here is just changing the look of your blog. You’re not erasing any of your content. You can change your themes as often as you want, without having to worry about your pages vanishing.

STEP 8 – Add logo, change colors and structure

Hey Sweden blogger, you don’t want to be left out without a logo right? Of course besides Swedish love designing and logo making isn’t it? Start your Sweden blog with a distinctive logo. You can check mine at the top of this Website and my Favicon is what is showing on the browser tab. Even though the WordPress theme that you’ve decided to use already comes with its specific pre-configured design, you can still change parts of it to your liking.

This is all done if you go to Appearance → Customize. What you’ll see is the WordPress Customizer:

Depending on your current theme, you’ll get a different set of options in the sidebar menu, but the most common ones will include:

  • “Site Identity” – this is where you can set your blog title again, plus add a logo image and a site icon (aka. favicon).
  • “Colors” – for adjusting the basic colors used throughout the design.
  • “Header” – for setting your header graphic or image.
  • “Background” – for setting your background graphic, image, or color.
  • “Menus” – more on this later on.
  • “Widgets” – more on this later on as well.
  • And other, theme-dependent settings.

Let’s start with the first option:

1. Add Logo And Favicon

  • If you don’t have a logo yet, you can serch for logo making apps and websites
  • If you don’t have a favicon yet, you can make one with Fiver

Since you probably already have your site title and tagline set up, what you’re going to be doing here is adding your company logo and favicon. Both are quite easy to do:

To add your logo, just click on the “Select logo” button. On the next screen, WordPress will let you know what sort of graphics are acceptable for logos.

After uploading your logo, you should see it inside the live preview window.

To add your favicon, click on the button labeled “Select image” under the “Site Icon” section:

The process is quite similar here as well – WordPress will tell you what sort of an image it’s expecting. However, the thing that’s different here is that once you do add your favicon, it won’t actually get displayed anywhere in the preview. To see it, look at the main top bar of your web browser, next to the blog title. An example from this site:

2. Change Blog Colors

Many Swedish bloggers I have seen love putting red, blue or grey as their color. Depending on the theme you’re using, you will see a different set of options in this section of Customizer.

Just a couple of settings here, granted, but playing with these can still help you make your new blog look unique and more in tune with your brand.

3. Add Custom Header Graphic

This is another section that’s highly dependent on the theme that you’re using. Starting a successful blog needs some cool customization. Though, the most common setting that you’ll stumble upon is the ability to add a header graphic/image, or perhaps even a header video. To set your header image, just click on “Add new image”:

Just a couple of settings here, granted, but playing with these can still help you make your new blog look unique and more in tune with your brand.

3. Add Custom Header Graphic

This is another section that’s highly dependent on the theme that you’re using. Though, the most common setting that you’ll stumble upon is the ability to add a header graphic/image, or perhaps even a header video. To set your header image, just click on “Add new image”:

Most commonly, these options will allow you to set a custom image or a solid color to be in the background. Either way, you can get quite interesting effects if you experiment with this long enough.

Step 9. Creating Your First Blog Post

Hey Pause, Creating your first blog post is very exciting. That’s the essential to starting a blog in Sweden and your blog post will determine whether you can make money blogging or not. To write a blog post, click on the Posts » Add New menu in your WordPress dashboard.

You will see an editor area where you can write your first blog post.

WordPress uses a block-based editor where each element is a block. This allows you to create beautiful content layouts for your blog posts.

Once you’re done writing, go ahead and click on the Publish button on the top-right corner of the screen to make your blog post publicly available.

On the posts screen, you will notice several other sections such as Categories and Tags. You can use these to organize your blog posts into sections.

Create New Pages

Now that you have an idea of what sort of pages you might need, let’s talk about how to actually go about creating them.

Luckily, the process of creating a new page in WordPress is the same no matter what sort of page that is.

Before doing so, you can also set your blog to a maintenance mode, which will prevent others from seeing your unfinished website.

To do that, go to your WordPress dashboard and then to Pages → Add New. What you’ll see is the main page editing screen of WordPress:

Step 10 – Add Plugins.

7 essential WordPress plugins you should install right away

WordPress plugins play an absolutely crucial role in how your blog will function.

What is a WordPress plugin and why are they important?

A WordPress plugin is a small piece of software that can be thought of as an “add-on” that gives extra features or functionality to your blog. Plugins let you add all sorts of features from collecting email subscribers, to nailing your blog SEO, tracking your website analytics, optimizing your images, increasing your page load speed and more.

The only problem is that, there are literally thousands of different plugins and blogging tools to choose from. To help you cut through all the noise… these are the 7 must-have WordPress plugins to install when you start a blog today:

  1. Yoast SEO: The more people that can find your content, the better your blog will do. The Yoast WordPress plugin helps you to optimize your blog post titles, descriptions, content length and other elements across your entire blog so that you can be found easier by search engines.
  2. WPForms: You’ll want your readers to be able to get in touch with you easily, which I highly recommend—as it’ll encourage other bloggers who want to collaborate with you an easy opportunity to reach out. WPForms is an easy-to-use plugin that allow you to drag & drop contact forms onto any page of your blog.
  3. Google Analytics Dashboard for WordPress: This is a 100% free Google Analytics plugin that allows you to see all of your relevant analytics data directly inside WordPress. Connect the plugin to your Google Analytics account (you can sign up for a free Google Analytics account right here) to find out who’s coming to your site, how long they’re sticking around, and what your most popular blog posts are.
  4. UpdraftPlus: Again, sometimes things will go wrong on your blog (and it won’t always be totally in your control). It’s always smart to have a backup plugin that’ll save all your hard work on a regular basis, and this free one stands high above the rest.
  5. WP Rocket: Faster websites rank better in Google and give your readers a better experience. WP Rocket is a plugin that caches your pages, reduces your file sizes, and does much more to ensure that your blog loads faster for everyone.
  6. MaxCDN: Speaking of speed, MaxCDN makes images and other static elements of your blog load faster as well, earning this plugin top marks to consider as a complement to also using WP Rocket.
  7. Insert Headers and Footers: Sometimes to edit your theme, you’ll have to add code snippets to your header or footer (it’s not as scary as it sounds). However, doing it in the code of your theme can cause issues. This plugin lets you add small snippets of code easily to select locations around your blog.
  8. Bonus — Lightweight Accordion: If you like the way I create the collapsible (accordion-style) content boxes here throughout this guide and in the FAQ section near the bottom of this post, then I highly recommend installing the free plugin I use to make those content sections come to life: Lightweight Accordion. In just a few clicks with this plugin, you can quickly add collapsible FAQ box functionality to your WordPress blog.

Basic Steps/recommendations for successful blogging in Sweden.

Step 11 – Basic WordPress blog settings you want to become familiar with now

There are many different reasons to start a blog or starting a blog as a Swedish and just as many unique goals you may have in mind. Regardless, it pays to have a basic understanding of the broader aspects of how WordPress functions, so that you can control the visual appearance of your blog.

Let’s dig into a few of the bigger picture settings that you can find in your WordPress dashboard.

How to Create a Contact Form in WordPress

Starting a blog in Sweden comes with a lot of processes, and for you to maximize the way you will be able to make money blogging in Sweden with your blog is to know and have a well defined audience. Every website needs a contact form. It allows your users to email you directly. Since WordPress doesn’t come with a built-in contact form, you will need a WordPress form builder plugin to add a contact form on your site.

We recommend using the WPForms Lite plugin. It is a free version of the popular WPForms plugin.

Over 3 million websites use WPForms!

You can install the plugin by going to Plugins » Add New page and typing WPForms in the search box. Next, you need to click “Install” and then “Activate”. Upon activation, you need to head over to WPForms » Add New page to create your first form.

This will open the WPForms builder interface.

First, you need to enter a name for your contact form and then click on ‘Simple Contact Form’ template.

WPForms will now create a simple contact form for you with all the required fields. You can click on any field to change it, or add a new field from the left column.

Once you are done editing the form, click on the save button at the top right corner and then exit the form builder.

You can now create a new page in WordPress by going to Pages » Add New and call it ‘Contact’. On the edit screen, you need to enter the WPForms block into the editor.

After that, select the form you created earlier from the drop down menu and WPForms will load a live preview of the form in the editor.

You can now save and publish the page and visit it in your browser to see your contact form in action.

How to Setup Google Analytics Tracking

Google Analytics helps Swedish bloggers like me to see how many people are visiting your blog, where they are coming from, and what are they doing on your website?

It is best to install Google Analytics when starting your blog, so you can see how much your blog has grown over time. Starting a blog at fresh in Sweden and seeing a good amount of visitors is actually exciting because it gives you the impression that your content is actually powerful.

First, you need to visit Google Analytics website and sign in using your Gmail account.

Once you are logged in, you can go ahead and sign up for a free Google Analytics account.

You will be asked to provide your information and website URL. After that, you will be presented with your Google Analytics tracking code.

You can stop here because we will be using a plugin to automatically fetch and add this code to your blog (along with setting up proper WordPress tracking).

Switch to your WordPress admin area to install and activate the MonsterInsights plugin. It is the free version of the best Google Analytics plugin for WordPress, and it is the easiest way to add Google Analytics on your site (trusted by over 2 million websites).

Upon activation, you need to visit Insights » Settings page to configure the plugin settings.

On the settings page, click on the ‘Connect MonsterInsights’ button to connect Google Analytics to your WordPress site.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup. Once done, you will be able to see your website analytics report straight from your WordPress dashboard under the MonsterInsights tab.

How to Optimize Your WordPress Blog for SEO

Most beginners don’t optimize for SEO when creating a blog and that’s bad. That is what kills many bloggers in Sweden not to succeed in their blogs. SEO or Search Engine Optimization helps users find your blog in search engines. If you want more traffic, then it’s crucial that you optimize your blog for SEO from the beginning.

To get started, first you need to install and activate the Yoast SEO plugin. It is the complete WordPress SEO plugin that will help you optimize your blog.

Upon activation, you will see a new menu item labeled ‘SEO’. Clicking on it will take you to the plugins settings page.

The plugin comes with a quick configuration wizard to help you walk through the set up.

Adding and Changing Your Navigation Menu

Best Website Navigation Examples and Practices to Improve the User ...

Menus have a very special task in WordPress. Basically, they are your best tool for making sure that the pages you’ve created can be found by your readers.

Typically, your blog should have one main menu that’s placed in the main navigation bar. Most visitors will expect to find something like that on your site.

To create a new menu, go to Appearance → Menus. Once there, look through the list of the available pages (the pages you’ve created so far) and click the checkboxes next to the ones that you want to have in your new menu. Then, click on “Add to Menu”. You’ll see your pages listed in the section on the right.

At this stage, you can also drag-and-drop those pages to realign them. When you’re done, you can also select one of the checkboxes under “Display location”. Most commonly, your main navigation location should be listed there – in our case, it’s “Top Menu”.

When we click on the main “Save Menu” button, my menu is going to be set.

4. Change Your Blog Sidebar and Footer

Depending on the theme that you’re using, you might have anywhere from zero to a handful of sidebars available + maybe a customizable footer as well.

To tune up what’s displayed in all those areas, we’re going to use WordPress widgets.

In simple terms, widgets are small blocks of content that can be displayed in various places throughout a WordPress blog.

To see what this is all about, just go to Appearance → Widgets.

What you see here are all the different widgets that WordPress gives you. Just to name a few:

  • Archives – a list of all your past blog posts
  • Image – an image of your choice
  • Categories – a list of all your blog categories
  • Recent Posts
  • Search – a search bar
  • Text – a piece of custom text
  • and a lot more

What you can do with all those widgets is place them in one of the predefined widget areas – usually within the sidebar or the footer.

Note: The widget areas that you see in your admin panel depend on the theme that you’re currently using.

Setting up your blog’s menu

For right now, you won’t need a menu until you’ve published your key pages (About, Contact, Hire, Shop, etc), but when you’re ready to create a homepage or footer menu, just go to Appearance > Menus and you can create them in just a few clicks.

Question

I see my site but my friends can’t. Why?

You probably forgot to launch it. It’s easy to forget because as long as you are logged into WordPress, you will not see the Coming Soon page. Click the yellow Coming Soon Active button in your WordPress Dashboard to make it visible to all.

Launch your site (& remove the Coming Soon page)

Once you’re ready for your site to go live, deactivate the Coming Soon page. Click the button at the top of your Dashboard and follow the prompts:

Create an XML Sitemap (and Submit Your Sitemap to Search Engines)

First, a quick definition from Google:

A sitemap is a file where you provide information about the pages, videos, and other files on your site, and the relationships between them. Search engines like Google read this file to more intelligently crawl your site.
What is a sitemap?

When your blog is new and has few external links pointing to it, a sitemap helps ensure Google is able to discover the amazing new content you create.

So, let’s go over how you create a sitemap (and how you can let Google know it exists).

How to Create an XML Sitemap

Permalinks (URLs)

Change Permalinks Structure

By default, WordPress sets the links on your blog to the following format:

  • yourdomain.com/?p=123

Why do they do this? No one knows for sure. “For grins and giggles” is the theory we’re going with.

But regardless of the reason, you need to update this link structure before you publish a single piece of content.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. In the left-hand navigation pane, hover over Settings
  2. Click Permalinks
  3. Under Common Settings, set the option to Post name

Now your links will look like this:

  • yourdomain.com/how-to-brew-coffee
  • www.yourdomain.com/seo-tips
  • yourdomain.com/social-media-strategies
  • subdomain.yourdomain.com/how-to-start-a-blog

Not only is this link structure better for your readers, but it’s better for search engines like Google too.

Install an SSL Certificate (So Your URL Begins With https Instead of http)

start a blog in cameroon SSl Certificate Service of ES Hosting

Speaking of things Google likes…

You absolutely, positively must install an SSL certificate for your website. Here’s why:

  • Readers will know your website is safe
  • Your website will be safe thanks to the encryption of readers’ sensitive data and personal info
  • Google sees it as a ranking signal, which means not having an SSL certificate will hurt your content’s rankings in search results

Okay, so what is an SSL certificate? How do you know if a website has one or not?

Look for a secure padlock and https in a website’s URL:

If the URL has them, the website is secure. If it doesn’t, it isn’t.

How to Install an SSL Certificate

Your web hosting package from Interserver.net  includes free auto SSL certificates on all your domains from Let’s Encrypt.

Here’s how you install them:

  • Log into your interserver.net account
  • Click the Go to cPanel button
  • In the top right section of the CPanel, click it.
  • Select your domain name, choose the auto ssl option, and click the Activate or Run button

A few moments later, your SSL certificate will be up and running!

Want to know a shortcut?

Get someone influential to introduce you to their audience.

This introduction could come in the form of a backlink to your website, an email mention, a share on social media, or letting you write a guest post for them.

Here’s how you do it:

  • Find the movers and shakers in your niche
  • Get on their radars
  • Reach out to them

It sounds easy, but there’s quite a bit of hard work involved. A lot, actually.

And here’s the kicker:

Every other Swedish beginner blogger will be doing outreach too. So will experienced bloggers. Even influential bloggers who blog full-time (including the ones you’re trying to connect with) will be doing it.

Every blogger who wants to grow their audience is pounding the pavement and reaching out to other bloggers (or paying someone to do it for them) in the hopes of making powerful friends.

In short, there’s a lot of competition. So if you want your outreach efforts to be effective, you need a solid plan.

This is great, because not only do your friends see the link, but if your friends share the link with their friends it automatically multiplies your readers. If you have created high-quality content on your blog then social media is a great way for your blog to go viral.

Engage With Your Readers.

Here’s the thing:

When you’re starting out, you should not spend money on Facebook ads. Or Google ads. Or whatever LinkedIn is doing these days.

But once you have a solid foundation in place, once you’ve reached 1,000 email subscribers, once you have traffic starting to roll in from Google search results… consider supercharging your efforts by learning the ins and outs of Facebook’s ad network.

Last Step 12

Step 12 – Making Money From Your Blog

This is the best part on how to start a blog in Sweden and make money blogging in Sweden.

To be frank, its not easy to start a blog in Sweden and keep it running. But since you followed our guide on how to start a blog in Sweden and make money blogging in Sweden, you will as well receive tips on monetizing your blog. Now that you’ve created your blog and customized it to your liking, you are probably wondering how can I actually make money from my blog?

There are a lot of different ways to successfully monetize your blog. However there is no such thing as a get rich quick scheme.

Don’t be fooled by the pictures of expensive cars and mansions because those are all fake. Now lets get going…

Affiliate Marketing

Do Affiliate Marketing after starting a blog in cameroon

We believe the best monetization method for bloggers is to build an audience that trusts them, and then offer high-quality products or services that will truly, genuinely help that audience.

Most bloggers hear this advice and decide to run off and create a book or course, but we think that’s a mistake when you’re a beginner.

If you’re not careful, you can waste months or even years creating a product your audience doesn’t want. You don’t want that — trust us.

Instead, we recommend you promote affiliate programs from reputable companies that offer money-back guarantees.

It works like this:

  • You introduce your readers to a product or service from a trusted source
  • Your readers look at the product or service, decide it will help them, and purchase it
  • You earn a commission on the sales

The beauty of affiliate marketing is you win multiple ways. You help your audience, you earn money, and — most importantly — you learn what types of products and services your audience likes to buy.

Once you have this information, then you can go out and create your own products, courses, or e-commerce sites around it. Only this time, you won’t be guessing there’s an audience for it. You’ll know it.

Memberships

Another way to monetize is by creating membership options on your blog. After you start a blog in Sweden, you may like turn it into a membership or forum site. This allows you to offer members more exclusive content only available with a paid membership. For example, you could offer unlimited downloads of digital goods, free consultations, a private network or forum where community members can mix and mingle, and private content available to members only.

There are many ways a blog can capitalize on popularity and traffic. Choosing the way you monetize from your blog depends on your goals and the purpose of your blog. Those who are selling services, physical goods, and digital goods, for example, may not want to participate in affiliate programs where traffic could be lost to another site.

  • Sell Private Ads

Working with advertising networks isn’t your only option when it comes to selling ads. If you end up with enough traffic, advertisers may come directly to you and ask you to place their ad on your site. You can also contact advertisers yourself. The biggest difference from the above mentioned option is that there is no middle man, which means you can set your own ad rates.

Selling private ads can come in the form of banners, buttons, or links. You can even make money writing sponsored posts where you write about or give a review of an advertiser’s product or service. Another option is to write an underwritten post or series, which is where you can write about any topic, but the advertiser pays for a “Brought to you by” mention in the content.

The ways you make money with this can vary. For instance, you might charge a one-time fee for a link within a post. If you are hosting banner ads, you might charge your partner monthly.

Bonus tip: To maximize your income, you can also choose to sell sponsorship space in your email newsletters (here are 5 best email marketing software), podcasts, and videos.

Freelancing (Selling Your Services)

If you want to start a blog in Sweden and start earning from your blog right away, then selling your services is going to be the easiest option by far.

All you really need in order to land your first freelancing client, is a strong enough pitch, which is where a blog will help significantly. You’ll want to build out your key pages (About, Contact, Hire Me) and showcase at least a couple examples of the type of work you’ve done that you’ll soon be pitching freelance clients on. Many Swedish make money Freelancing with their blog and other freelancing sites.

And if you don’t have those work samples yet… don’t let that hold you back. Spend a few days right now to create those sample articles, designs or other deliverables and host them on your own blog as if they were a project you got paid to produce.

If you have a skill that you can sell as a service, then you’re already prepared to go out and start pitching potential clients. That skill could be something like…

  • Writing
  • Design
  • Photography
  • Marketing
  • Developing
  • Public relations
  • Social media management
  • Virtual assistance
  • Community-building
  • SEO or paid advertising campaigns
  • Business strategy or project management
  • The list goes on… because any skill can be monetized

Google Adsense.

Start a blog and monetize with ads. Many bloggers in Sweden make money by showing ads on their blog. If you make a blog with monetization in mind, then Google AdSense is the best way to do this. Google Adsense is good for blog starters who are trying to make money with their little traffic.

It is the largest advertising platform for bloggers and publishers. Acting as a middleman between you and the advertiser, Google allow advertisers to bid for keywords matching your content. This allows you to get the best rates possible for the ads.

Once you have a popular blog, advertisers will be hounding you for the opportunity to advertise. The best way to take advantage of this situation is to use Google Adsense. Google finds the advertisers for you and all you have to do is place the Google Adsense code on your blog to start running ads. Google Adsense takes all of the hard work out of the process and just cuts you a check.

Sell Courses.

  • As a Swedish Blogger, You Can Explore the idea of podcasting (optional!)

In Sweden there are several artists riding up, there is a ton of stuff to learn about podcasting, no doubt. For the average blogger, to get into it fully would require a bit of a learning curve and dedication. So, as such, this last way of making money through your blog is completely optional. Nevertheless, very rewarding if you do it right.

Most bloggers are already converting their articles into audio format, which supplements the fact that 82.4% of people listen to podcasts for more than 7 hours each week. On top of that, it makes for convenience. Rather than having to read an article, your readers can choose to listen to it while on their way to work or to the supermarket. It’s a win-win situation.

But my recommendation is to explore the full idea of podcasting, which means creating an entirely new podcast run by you on a subject that you have passion for. There are so many great ways to advertise your podcasts these days, YouTube and iTunes being the best, respectively, that you’re guaranteed to attract an audience over time.

Platforms like Anchor make it easy to start your podcast (for free!) with zero time investment. Grab your phone, and Anchor will let you connect both with your guests, or you can choose to solo podcast. Afterward, index and categorize all your episodes and do whatever you like with them.

Last but not least, it’s an amazing way to build your brand. Getting in front of the camera and showing yourself and your passion, people, naturally love that. Like attracts like, so to speak. But, besides that, you also have the ability to connect with other bloggers or influential people.

You can invite them as your guests for certain episodes, and if you really get the hang of it, you can go as far as creating episodes that no one has thought of yet.

One of my favorite health/food related podcasts is run by Rhonda Patrick from FoundMyFitness. Her in-depth understanding of certain topics has enabled her to invite guests to her podcast that you wouldn’t generally get to hear or listen to just by looking it up. So, in the long-term, it is helping her build a very strong brand but also earn a steady long-term income as her content remains relevant long after publishing.

Wrapping things up

How you make money with blogging is entirely up to you. Some areas of earning revenue have become a lot less rewarding than in the past. Sure, but that also leaves room for innovation and new ways of thinking.

To summarize, I recommend looking for more personal connections in how you make money with your blog. Collaborate with other people, work together on projects, or simply exchange ideas. You can go the traditional way and grind your way to revenue, but I think this article shows reliable alternatives that are far less painful.

Note that blogging needs time and consistent hard work. I’ll like to know your thoughts and reviews on how things go on. Happy Blogging fellow Swedish.

Finally you are done.
